If I take happiness from outside myself, I will have to tolerate the inevitable periods of unhappiness which result. As soon as I allow my happiness to be dependent on anything outside, I make myself a slave to a condition, substance or a person. A slave is not free. And happiness is impossible if I am not free. This is why my happiness does not shift up and down. Real freedom means that my happiness comes from the inside. Today let me find happiness inside myself.
